Does TV Make You Fat?

Last month we reported on a study at Johns Hopkins showing a strong correlation between the amount of sleep a child gets and obesity.

Harvard's Project Viva, a study of 2,000 mothers and their children, has reported a similar correlation between the amount of sleep a child gets (or lack thereof), and obesity.

If the same children also watched a lot of TV they were even more likely to be fat.

Now, the title of this blog post is deliberately misleading. See, science deals primarily with correlations and not causalities.

What does that mean?

Well, it means that we can't know for sure if the TV itself is causing the obesity. It's one of many possibilites that the correlation suggests.

Another possibility is that the obese kids chose a sedentary activity like TV as their favorite leisure activity.

I'd love to see if the same correlation exists for kids who surf the net an equal length of time.

Anyone know someone at Project Viva? I'd love to know if they are gathering that data as well ...

Simpleology News - The Printing Press of the Future is Free

The Printing Press of the Future is Free

In The Rise of the Author I talked about how technology is changing our lives right before our very eyes - and how the nature of the publishing industry is changing.

The printing press of the future is the computer monitor.

And delivery method of choice seems more and more to be the Adobe PDF file.

Why not just deliver your content via HTML?

Two reasons: portability and perception.

HTML will not render or print consistently across platforms, as much as we'd love it to. PDF will.

And the perception of information delivered via PDF is one of higher value. "Oh, this is a special file format. It's a book." Not "just a web page."

You could go purchase Adobe Acrobat for $300 and up (depending on the version), or ...

You can get Primo PDF for free. Yes, it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of Acrobat or other non-free PDF converters, but do you really need them?

Suggested Resources: 7 Day Business Turnaround Kit for limitless ways to turn PDF files into cash flow.

Simpleology News - Exit Email Hell in 3 Steps

Exit Email Hell in 3 Steps
Here's one of the many things I do to cut down email overload.

We've been asking everyone for years at Simpleology to stop checking their email throughout the day - and to only check it after they have done their Daily Target Praxis (see Simpleology 101) and completed their Daily Targets.

This has an immediate positive effect on your productivity. It's like magic.

But if you've been using Simpleology you already know this.

Here are three steps you can take to cut down the email noise even more:

Step 1. Say goodbye to your current email address.

Let's face it - if you're getting pummeled with spam it's not gonna stop. Yes, you can use SpamArrest and other tools like that, but over time the SpamArrest filter box becomes just another inbox to check. You have to check it for false positives or risk losing mail.

So, what do you do?

You dump it. Forever.

Ask your sys admin or ISP to put up this autoresponder message:

Sorry, this email box is no longer valid. To learn how to contact me, please visit (YOUR WEBSITE HERE).

More about that in a minute.

2. Set up 5 email boxes as follows.

Your ISP may already provide you with multiple email accounts - if not, set up 5 Gmail accounts (you can access them all from the same copy of Outlook)

You'll need one email box for personal friends and family. Give that one out to ... you guessed it.

You'll need one for general business contacts. You give this one out to potential contacts you meet via your business card, your website, etc. (Tip: you should use a contact form or otherwise protect your address from spam-bots.) If you're like me you'll have someone else monitor this box for you and only send you stuff that's important.

You'll need a third box for "close" business contacts. These are people you work with daily, extremely important contacts, "mission critical" notifications (like the ones you get from Simpleology - hey, when you read us you get more time back than you put in), etc. You can "promote" certain people to this email box as needed.

You'll need a fourth box that you use to "sign up for free stuff." Every time you subscribe to a newsletter you'll use this address.

You'll need a fifth and final box for making online purchases. You guessed it ... Buy stuff - use this address.

So, how does this help?

Read on ...

3. Filter into 5 separate folders.

You can do this with most email clients. If you use Outlook (most of us do), for example, you'll use the "Rules Wizard."

You just have to create 5 folders in Outlook (corresponding to the 5 email boxes listed above) and then tell the Rules Wizard to send the email that comes in to each of those accounts to the corresponding folder.

How does this help?

Well, it should be obvious, but give it a shot and you'll see.

After I do my Daily Target Praxis and finish my Daily Targets, then I check my folder for emails from Close Business Contacts. If you've done this properly, this box should be 100% spam free.

I'll either answer the emails in this folder on the spot or add new items to my Dream Catcher (for processing in the next day's DTP).

Then I can peruse my other inbox folders at my leisure.

Side Note: If any of you guys want to turn this into a youtube video to make this system easier for folks to follow, go for it. I'll post about the first/best video tutorial I see in the blog. Just make sure you show folks how to read this original blog post in the video and also show them how to set up a Simpleology account - it's a vital part of the system. Post a link to your tutorial in the comments section and I'll keep my eye out for it.

Simpleology News - Caffeine Vs. Fat (and the Exact Recipe for Turning Into a Fatty)

Caffeine Vs. Fat (and the Exact Recipe for Turning Into a Fatty)

OK, I know I'm opening up the flame door with this one, but here's my opinion: caffeine gets an undeserved bad rap.

I think it's an extremely useful tool - especially for weight loss.

If you want to lose weight, increasing the number of calories you burn and decreasing the number you take in is the surest and best-known method.

Yes, it's not as simple as that. Timing of the food you take in, the types and ratios of macronutrients, etc. - all these things matter ...

However, one thing is certain: if you're sitting on your butt all day and shoveling in the Twinkies and Doritos you're gonna get fat.

So, you like to sit on your butt and eat junk?

Well, taking some caffeine can cut your appetite, so you may eat less.

And the "stimulant" effect of caffeine may inspire you to get up off your butt and move.

Yes, caffeine has its dangers - especially when used in extremely high doses for long periods - but comparing those dangers to the risks of obesity ... Well, the choice is pretty clear in my mind.

Those who follow a strict naturopathic philosophy are going to disagree with me, but that's where I stand.

All opinions are welcome here - agreeing with me is not a pre-requisite for hanging out at this space.

Do your own research and make your own choice.

Side Note: don't get your caffeine from carbonated beverages - there's a lot of evidence that shows they are six shades of bad for you. Try some green tea instead.

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I even learned from the introduction letter that was promoting Simpleology 103 about personal energy and health.

Simpleology News - "Hack" Into the Human Mind and Type in any Command

"Hack" Into the Human Mind and Type in any Command

Today we're releasing my first #1 best-seller (Mind Control Marketing) in ebook form (along with the controversial "Missing Chapter").

Since I let it go out of print a few years ago, used and tattered copies of the book have been sold on Amazon Marketplace and Ebay for $100 to $500.

But you can now download the same information instantly.

What is it?

Well, basically it's a "hacker's manual" into the human brain.

Computer hackers look for hidden loopholes where they can sneak their way into computers and get the computers to do their bidding.

Practitioners of Mind Control Marketing do this with the human brain.

And they use this not just to get people to fork over money to buy products, but also to influence people to do anything (ranging from seduction to sedition).

(If you are wondering why I made the decision to make this information public again, I address this in the intro to the ebook version, and in the Missing Chapter.)

Now, here's a little demonstration of one of the simpler "hacks" you can use to get people to do what you want ...

Imagine that you want to borrow $20 from someone. How likely are they to say yes?

What if you could get them to say yes almost every time?

Try this ...

1. Select someone you know, but that isn't a "best friend" (a best friend is too easy - and there are other tactics you need to use for strangers - you'll see when you read MCM).

2. Tell them you're in a really tough financial situation and that you really need their help.

3. After you make your situation clear say, "Look I'm $1,000 short on my rent this month, can I borrow it from you? I promise I'll pay you back next month."

4. They are very likely to say no unless they have lots of money and are really close friends.

5. After they say no say, "OK, I totally understand and I don't blame you at all. How about just 20 bucks then?"

Chances are extremely high that they will say "yes" to the 20 dollars. If you had simply asked directly, the likelihood of getting a "yes" would have been much lower.

This is what's known as the "Door in the Face Technique."

It's simple: if you want someone to comply with a request, ask them for something outrageously huge first - then ask for what you really want.

It works like a charm. Well, "charms" don't really work, do they? This does.

The applications of this simple technique are limitless. If you can imagine an interesting one, please share it with us in the "comments" section of this post.

This is but one of a great many "loopholes" into the human mind that you can exploit immediately to get people to do whatever you want.

Is it unfair to have this advantage?

I'll leave that for you to discuss. Meanwhile, I'm making this information public once again for now.

Is It Time You Found Your Missing Link?

Revolutionary Strategies You Won't Find Anywhere Else
For Leading Prospects To Rapidly See YOUR Point Of View…

Having trouble convincing the masses to move where you want them to go... are sales slumping and you're looking for a better way?

Then you'll be enlightened by what you are about to discover in this letter... in fact, it may be the most important 5 minutes of your year.

There are dozens of better ways to persuade people to willingly flock to your offerings:

  • Without sleazy “used car salesman” flimflam

  • Without expensive technological “widgets” that are supposed to do your work for you

  • Without “one size fits all” solutions

  • Without incomplete information that promises all the answers

  • And without the pain and frustration you are feeling right now
Continue to Power of Persuassion

The ability to persuade is NOT a luxury skill. Think about it for a minute… when you take the lead in anything – whether it be deciding what restaurant to hit Friday night with a group of friends, what movie to watch, or what car you’re going to buy – either you are doing the persuading, or someone is persuading you.

Listen up. Influence isn’t just for salesmen. From Fortune 500 CEO’s to stay at home moms, it’s used everyday by everyone… some use it well and get what they want… others don’t and just let people walk all over them.

Is There A Best Seller Inside of You?

Take 5 minutes and…

Now you can find out how to go from zero – to
Bestselling Author in as little as 58 Days…

(Even if you have no book, no publisher or no agent!)

From: Mark Joyner
Auckland, New Zealand
Monday, 2:47 PM

If there’s a story within you burning to get out, or a special skill you need to share with the world… prepare to have your life changed.

Why?

Because it’s easier than ever to publish a book and become a bestselling print author now than any other time in history.

More available bestseller lists, sure-fire cyber-marketing methods, and easily accessible publishing are only a few of the reasons why.

For people in business, a book is the ultimate “business card on steroids.”

For people with a story to tell, it’s a ticket to recognition, admiration and perhaps something much bigger.

What would it be like if your phone was ringing off the hook with radio and TV talk show offers? How would it feel to have people off the street suddenly recognize you?

That’s what being a bestselling author can do for you.

Of course the trick is… actually getting there!

It’s really a simple process. In fact, there are only 3 steps to becoming a bestselling author.

  1. Write a terrific book
  2. Publish it in a quality “package”
  3. Understand book marketing
Find out more at Best Selling Author Training.

You may think this is odd… but hear me out.

Once you’re a bestseller… your life certainly changes on the outside. But the very most stunning change is really on the inside.

I’m talking about EGO.

Not in a negative way… but an extremely positive one.

Because starting yourself out on a lifetime of bestseller status does wonders for your ego.

Now before you start thinking “the last thing I need is a big ego” consider this. It’s perfectly natural to have a large healthy ego after achieving something as momentous as bestseller standing.

That means I’m not talking about a big obnoxious ego. I’m confident that you can keep that from happening. And if you’re afraid you would go off the deep end… I’d prefer you didn’t get this package. (There’s plenty of unbearable people on earth, I don’t want to add to the population.)

Let your friends and family help you keep it in check if you need to.

But the truth is, boosting your ego practically forces you into seeing things in a radically new light. Suddenly, your significance is more apparent. It’s easier to achieve things that you once feared. You’ll possess a healthy sense of your new status in the world… how others view you.

And in the end, a boost to your ego will have a huge effect on your bank account.
